What, Where, When and How Much?
Namaqualand is an arid region in the north-western part of South
Africa. It covers over 1,000 kilometres. Most of the Namaqua
Camino walks will take you on an inland route to the Atlantic Ocean
coastline. Except for one, the walks are assisted slack-pack hikes
which means that you walk with a light daypack while your tent and
Namaqua Camino bags are safely transported to the next overnight
camp. The dates have been selected specifically during a time of the
year when the weather is supposed to be temperate but as we all
know, Mother Nature is fickle and extreme weather (very hot, cold
or rainy) might be experienced during this time. Facilities in the
overnight camps are basic but we do supply hot showers with
rationed water. Bucket toilets are available at the overnight camps
and along the route. Water is rationed to 5 litres per person per day
for personal use. Drinking water, however, is always available in the
camp and along the daily stages. You need to be as walking fit as
possible for all the walks. The more prepared you are, the more
enjoyable your excursion will be!
